I had no idea what a startup was. I am a biologist as people say But I took the risk to enter the business world. Destination unknown. But how all this started?
One day you may decide that you want to launch a startup because either your current job is not fulfilling your personal expectations (in other words your professional life sucks or life circumstances turn you into a more risky business person or you are a dreamer or… Then you realize that you have a nice original idea and the right people who are willing to take the risk with you to enter the startup world. That’s it, why shouldn’t you go ahead? Risky? 100%. Exciting? 200%! Rewarding? Some people say yes some people say no. Statistically you have less than 10% to be successful (we will discuss in a another post what means success to you!)
So let’s begin with our story. First thoughts before even deciding to go ahead with Karmagenes:
Feeling super secretive to talk about it at the beginning. But after a few months talking to friends, some business people and a few startup experts you get motivated to open up and this helps to better shape your idea in your head.
How to proceed? Talk to more people with more concrete ideas. Some of them will disagree, some of them may agree and some of them do not care!
You listen many different opinions, pick the ones that you feel comfortable with. If you start with the wrong foot you will fail easier. But keep in mind you are flexible and be ready to take valuable lessons from your mistakes and all opinions may somehow benefit your startup at some point.
Everybody tells you it is a tough road. It is much tougher than you expect but it excites you There are also moments when you feel really down. I suggest you go out to do whatever relaxes you (sleep, meditate, beers with friends, sex etc), wash your face and tell yourself that it is a new day!
Pick the right people. It sounds stereotypical but they need to be similar dreamers with you. Experts, advisors and people with lots of experience are important assets but you need people to be flexible, fall in love with your idea and ready to take risks at this early step.
Next step is where you want to go. If you think big does success follows? Something we will discuss in the next post on Febuary 27th.
By the way we currently run an online market research survey. Your opinion is invaluable to better understand what people really think about themselves, DNA and behavioural characteristics http://svy.mk/1FGoUbw Thanks!
And to conclude with the question of the day:
Are you willing to risk for something that could be worth trying or do you prefer to stay in your safe environment with a steady job?
ps: The most difficult part is to start!
